Ok, I'll just go with the 2 gigs then. I wanted to get as much as
possible up front, as apparently the motherboard I'm getting drops
memory speed down to 667mhz when all four slots are filled. I guess if
I ever need to go to 4 gig, I can sell the 2 gig sticks via ebay.

If you are not using a 64 Bit OS (and if you are interested in gaming
you shouldn't be) , then 4gig is overkill. Games don't use 4Gig.
Nothing does actually, so a large portion of that memory will never be
used.
32Bit Vista or XP cannot address a full 4Gig of memory. There'

Nvidia is rumored to be releasing a 9800GTX before the end of the year.
It is supposed to be just an incremental improvement though, and some
say it should be called the 8900 rather than a whole new 'generation'
so to speak, by using the 9800 designation.

because of the free games, but I think the GTX is just a
better solution. Who knows, by the time I can afford this, new cards
might come out.

That's just perfect. You can't get better than that really.
The only thing is the Graphcis card, if you were considering ATI. The
2900XT 1GB card competes fairly well with the GTX. I did not find the
1Gig version of the 2900XT on NewEgg however.
You would also need to check if the Motherboard sup

I'll eventually get two.

The returns on overclocking memory are small.
The returns on overclocking memory are small.
The risks regarding cooling and system stability are high.
The 800Mhz memory should be just fine.
You will get a much larger performance boost with Processor and Graphics Cards.
What processor and card are you considering?

This is the motherboard:
Intel BLKD975XBX2KR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM

DDR 800 Memory standard.
I'm considering this memory:
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
what memory is suggested by the motherboard.
newegg has great reviews on speedy memory, but you need to know what
type your mb supports first.

I'm specing out my new gaming system, but I'm not sure which memory to
get. I plan to overclock slightly down the line, nothing too extreme.
I'm more interested in overclocking the processor than the memory, but I
want good, quality, fast memory. I plan on getting two 1 g
