I installed it a few months ago (with CFMX/Apache on Linux), and seem
to recall it being amazingly painless. Extract the archive, run the
installer, and follow the instructions for defining the mapping it
needed. Obviously as you get farther in-depth, it'll get more

Thanks for the breakdown Jochem.
It seems like folks aren't paying a lot of attention to macs. Here around
Boston, some biotech companies need mixed platform support, including macs.
Not a lot of linux/unix, at least on the desktop where the browsers live.
Ironically, I used to be a mac-only guy,

I believe Doug means a Verity collection - There isn't a way to check
for its existence in any variables scopes unless you try to run a search

Nice call Steve..
Alternatively, to get around the JavaScript bit, create an invisible
IFRAME which has it SRC set to the alive.cfm.. On Alive.cfm, add a HTTP
redirect to redirect back to itself after 1200 seconds.

My two cents...
I develop with Firefox and its validator extension, then fiddle with this and
that for IE.
Everyone should use Firefox for their browsing and I recommend it to most of my

In addition to that approach, I would suggest the following bit of JavaScript:

imgAlive.src = '/alive.cfm?d=' + d;

Before the script is added to your site, add a small aliv

Why not CFTRY a simple verity search based on the collection you want to
check and create it in the CF
It should be noted that Martin's actually talking about getting strong
enough with CSS to understand when you'll need certain workarounds, what
styles will work when and port across to other browsers, etc. He's also
bringing up understanding of Standards (ref:
