For the record, I did not mean to imply otherwise. The physical
reality though is that it's much faster to get a ground package from OH to VA
than it is from CA to PA. I really don't know anything about PAW, but you
should be able to contact them and they should be able to tell you the

I have been told its a no-no if you have a vortex intake, only 8 bolts.
I always use the acc bolts in the heads, or the lifting tabs that come on the
new crate motors.
Good point about the lifting tabs.
It's all I use to pull
the engine. Never had a problem. Just be sure that the studs you use are long
enough to bottom out in the manifold. That will ensure that you have plenty of
thread in the hole to hold the weight.

Sorry
Having left my 64 Malibu with 283 and PG trans sit for several years I decided it was high time to see if it still ran.
I pulled the plugs a couple days a head of time and flooded with my favorite penetrating oil (Kroil) so rings wouldn't be stuck.

Hi,
Were there any early style (64-67) 283 manifolds on which a square bore Holley 4 barrel would bolt onto directly? By early I'm thinking of ones where the oil fill pipe is at the front of the manifold.
Thanks.

I don't recall any 283 intakes with that

My engine is from a 1958 Vette and the original intake manifold
had the oil fill tube. It was for a spreadbore carb, and a small one at that. I
changed to an Edelbrock Performer.

I'd have to doublecheck but I'm pretty sure at least the 1966 manifold
accepts a squarebore carb with a square (5-1/4?) pattern (my guess is that a
4G would fit). I had a '64 intake that took a squarebore carb but the side-
to-side bolt width was less than the front-to-back width.

the motor sits so far back in the early Impalas, it
would be damn near impossible to get a lift tab on the back side of the
engine...

I have a cast iron Holly intake with a freeze plug in the oil filler hole that can be replaced with the filler tube if you are interested. My 283 has an intake from a 327 300hp made in the mid 60's so I can run a Carter AFB or Edelbrock carb. The stock 4-barrel 283 intake was for a small 4-barrel
