Many are the question of the amateur.
I have my 66 down to bare metal with most of the body work done.
Can I have it primered or do it myself to keep it from rusting?(will the primer seal it?)
What kind of primer should one use?
Can you use spoting putty on top of primer?
Thanks guys!
Hi Tom,
With either the TREMEC 5sp (3550/TKO) or the 6sp (T56s) you will
definately need to cut the tunnel off and rebuild it. Here are some
examples:

The tunnel is just too small to accomodate these larger transmissions.
And the 6sp is

Clint I have a 66 also (chevelle).
I have been loking into 5 or 6 speeds for about 2 years now. I have probably talked to you before I'm quite certain.
I'm leaning toward the 5 or 6 speed richmond beacause of location of shifter for my 4 speed console and closer gear ratio than the TKO.

Right now,I'm running a 3.50 rear cog in the Fab 9.
Sixth gear is pretty tall but useable and allows around 22mpg on the
highway.
However,I think a much better match for the T56
would be 4.11's or 4.30's. With 4.10's in your 12 bolt, you will see around 2K

I'm not sure if that's what they call them but here is my question. Back in the late 60's Chevy had trouble with motor mounts breaking. They came up with a device that attached to the engine in front of the exhaust manifold and attached to the frame with a piece of wire cable in between. What are

Honestly I don't know why you'd want one. GM did
have a lot of suits about the mounts and that was a quick fix. It affected

Thanks Dale for the quick response. I'm mainly going for the look. I've seen them on the ultra restored cars and I thought it might be nice to have something different. I remember I had to put them on my 67 Camero, many years ago. Bob K.
I understand that . I guess I'm looking for something different , more of a conversation piece than an actual working unit. But thanks for the info, I too remember people useing chain. Bob K

If you're looking at them from a "restoration" aspect
(or just a neat conversation piece), I'd go for it if they're not too
expensive. You'd also have to find a pair of non-locking mounts to make it
"authentic".

This was chevys cheap fix in the late sixties a broken motor mount could make the motor torque causing the throttle to bind possibly causing a car crash or run amok I own 2 or 3 of them. I see them go for between 15-35 bucks on ebay all the time. there are several different versions. Yes, a piece
