Robert, I just finished putting my exhaust manifolds back on my 66, I had to take the bolt out of the motor mount on the drivers side and take my floor jack with a small piece of 2x4 and raise the engine up on the drivers side a little bit, I also had to do that to get drivers side off. Rocky

support the frame on jackstands and let the rear suspension relax. you can actually take the whole spring out if ya are strong enough to squeeze it down. I know I can do this on my 70. I took the springs out this way to wipe them off. Tom ---

JJ is right, but let me add a few details. Jack up the car from under the differential w/ a hydraulic floor jack. Put jack stands under the frame. Lower the car until the weight is primarily on the stands, but the floor jack is still supporting the rear. Disconnect the lower rear shock mounts. Sl

Rear is easy. Jack the car up by the frame or jack it up under the diff and put jackstands under the frame. Let the rear hang. Shouldn't be much force left in the springs. Can probably squeeze it enough with your hands or pry at it with a tire iron or something. If all alse fails, removing

One is a 71 SS convert. 350 with air.  The other is a 454, no air.  How hard is it to add air to a car?  Does it lessen the value, since it wouldn't be original?  I think that I would paint the 350, not crazy about the color.  Am I really screwing up not getting the 454?
