Looking at my 66 Chevelle from the back, with the trunk lid out of the way, in the top left and top right corners of the trunk opening, there is a number stamped into the sheetmetal, right next to where the trunk seal would go... Is this a partial VIN stamp, or is it just the fender part

Looks like a part number to me, and of course the part number would indicate whether it's for a 2dr or 4dr. If anyone has one of those old crash parts books the answer to whether or not it is a part number would be there.

That ebay one looks like the RH side. Could that last digit be a 4? Its hard to tell with the paint on. Still, a crash parts book would contain the answer to whether or not it's a part number.

Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Could be a mix-up at the factory. I think for registration purposes, as long as the VIN tag and title match. I've never had anyone look at the cowl tag for registration
