Currently I'm preparing for DQoS exam for IPTel.
One of the exam topic is: explain the difference between classification and
marking.
Most of the documentation on CCO I read always joined these 2 words
together and didn't state the distinction. Any help will be appreciated.

Classification is the process of putting traffic into a class. Whereas,
marking is the process of marking the class with a distinct identifier.
Traffic can be classified based upon different values such as source IP
address, DSCP value, IP precedence value, MPLS experimental value, port
number, .

To be short:
Classification is the action for a network machine to say :
- ok that packet (or frame) is an Ip one so it is classified in the Silver
Class
- this one a DLSW one so it is classified in the Glod Class
- this a FTP on
