Is this for a lab or production environment?
OSPF can authenticate per-area or on a interface
basis. You'll have to put this spoke on it's own
sub-interface or run a tunnel to it and do auth on the
tunnel.

dedicated subinterface for each spoke, then you could
simply use the IOS 12.0 command of "ip ospf authentication
message-digest" on the subinterface connected to rtrB. However, the
scenario I'm working with stated that the hub router had no
subinterfaces.
Thanks in advance.

I just finished playing around with something like this at home and
discovered the same thing. I don't have the link handy, but I did find
an example of OSPF virtual links with authentication on CCO that
included this command.
I'm assuming this is necessary because once you've created the virt
Hi,
At the virtual link line for both routers,
add a message-digest authentication, eg:
Router A
area 1 virtual link 192.168.5.5 message-digest-key 1 md5 pass
The "area 0 auth message-digest" is needed at RouterA
also since it is ABR for area 3.

With md5 authentication configured in OSPF Area 0, following must also be
configured on ABR with virtual link... (the ABR which is not directly
connected to Area 0.) "

rajesh,
I just experienced the same problem in a lab this week. If you establish
OSPF neighbors ok w/out authentication, and your debug shows that you are
failing on mismatch authentication, try redoing your command by removing it
and reentering it... I don't know why this worked for me, and I
Hi all,
The scenario is this :
Three router pod in a triangular fashion connected via ethernet ports to
a switch in a common vlan.

support OSPF authentication.
both routers C and D are Cisco 2500 with version 11.3
