It's a known bug. I'd be willing to bet that you are using a Dell laptop as
well. The workaround is to just wait untill hyperterminal has fully
loaded, before you plug into the switch.
It just seems to happen with the smaller switches. It won't affect my
routers, or cat5500s or 6500s. Of co

I've had win2k's Serial port Device detect autoprobe cause a switch to
reboot before. It's not just you.

You are not alone! There is some bug when connecting/disconnecting to the
small switches with a notebook and hyperjunk. I have seen this many times
with the 3500 and 2400XL cats. I really don't know if the bug is with the
program, the cable, the switch, or the combination. But there is definat
thought that i remember a post a few weeks ago about cat switches
rebooting when connected to a laptop. ?
