Hi
I agree with you. Even cert like CCIE is getting less and less important
for companies. I don't see the hype for CCIE that existed in 1999.
I am currently working on it but wonder whether it is worth it yet or not.
However, it is still a very difficult exam to pass. It is still very
challen
thats what
drives change, cash flow.

Exactly. Anybody can get a job if they're willing to flip burgers, but of
course people who earn the CCIE are going to expect something a little
better than that. That is my point exactly. The CCIE may no longer earn
you much of a premium in the market any more. It's not 1999.

It certainly dosen't hurt to get a CCIE. The world is never going to throw
itself at you, so go out and learn as much as you can and get your CCIE. If
you can't get a job with a CCIE, you have other problems. I am just a CCNP
and I can get a job.

I don't like discouraging anybody or making anybody feel bad. But on the
other hand, I would be doing everybody here a disservice if I didn't report
honestly on what's really going on. I believe i

Excited about an economic downturn, eh? Reminds me of those kids in school
who would remind the teacher that she didn't assign any homework.

Yes !! Keep your spirits up, everyone. You may not have the employers lining
up outside
your door anymore. You may have to do more company research, interview
preparation, etc.
You may have to relocate. You may not get those 1999 salaries. But the jobs
are there.
Go out to Monster or Dice or whate
Here's my thoughts
* Yes, I know several CCIE's who are having trouble finding work. And yes,
I know one guy who has 2 CCIE's (R/S and ISPDial) who is having trouble
finding work. For those of you who think it might be due to lack of
experience, the guys I am talking about have at least 5 years
You're right...
But for those with lesser skills, it is quite difficult to find
employment.
I've got 5 years in network administration, 2 using cisco and foundry
products, and
a ccna and I can't find a thing. yet at least.
just my .02
