I think at some point the bottom needs to be stripped and started fresh. I
think the areas like you're seeing may be your first signs that it might time
for your boat. However, you could simply sand and feather it and coat it with
bottom paint.I've actually just asked the yard for a quote on s
I have crew coming up to help work on the boat this weekend. One task I
wanted to bang out was putting on bottom paint.
Unfortunately the high is only going to be in the 30s. Any tips/tricks for
applying VC17 in colder weather, or should I punt and wait for another
weekend to do this?

Yes we are a little late, its time to get moving on this. We are
cruiusers, not racers and work full time - so we have to pay through
the nose for this kind of thing. I do need to know a bit about how
best to proceed.

I've got a keel model. my main concern would be the condition of the

Apparently VC17 is best applied very shortly before splashing the boat.
I'de wait.

Centerboard, yes. Sorry.
The cable seems to be OK, but the board itself is just so massive - nothing
like any I've known on smaller boats. No way to pull it up without using a
winch.

I see nothing about an application/immersion timeline , most people get the
bottom VC-17 on a week or two prior to launch (getting the bottom ready beats
out topsides , when it comes to launch prep)

On a 26 foot boat with 8.4 ft beam took four 8 hour days to do the bottom.
that was just stripping. Cost was paint scraper blades and sanding discs plus
the cost of the barrier coat and antifouling paint roll
I just contacted the nearest marina that can haul me and asked them for an
estimate. Seems to be in line with what others are saying. $4050 for the 35'
boat which includes:
1. Soda blasting
2. 4 barrier coats of 2000e
3. 2 coats Interlux micron bottom paint
Which Interlux micron, I didn't
Does that include hauling storing and launching? Seems about right.

Most boaters stow all kinds of things on their boats. I am no exception.
In fact my wife thinks I am pack rat. When locating or remembering what I

If you have an iPad (or other iOS device), you can get Filemaker Go 12 for free

out-of-the-box or be modified to do your inventory.
I've got Filemaker experience; if I got some free time, I could develop a

Guys,Thanks for the info. More than I wanted it to be! LOL At least now I
have a better idea of what it may cost. I'll have to digest it for a bit. I'd

Why not just use a spreadsheet? Free, flexible, searchable.
Now where did I put that computer?

Appears I was mistaken, good to know. I guess it's just one of those
'facts' that makes it's way around the club. I should have checked before

You’re probably spending $1500 on the blasting and another $1000 or so for the

are an investment – you should never need to do that again.
When the final coat of Interprotect is still soft – dry but not fully cured

It has been recommended to me by some long term cruisers in the local Power
