I am more than a little confused here. Who is your insurance carrier? Why would
they take some random internet person’s word for a boat’s value over an
accredited marine surveyor? It is a bit odd this is even a question, I know
what my hull value is already on my policy, it is plainly stated.
I’ll say ! looks nice.. I was thinking low to 25 to mid 30’s for a 78 in good
condition ?
Have seen a few 1980’s – 37’s ( very similar hull design? Diff interior layout)
listed in the $35-40K price range. ( little bias…. but worth every Penny)

My current policy with Travelers, and my previous policies with Boat US (two
different carriers) all had an agreed upon hull value. Does your policy not
have this provision?

I am not a marine surveyor, so I am not sure why your insurance would believe
my valuation more than anyone else’s. Just give them a list of similar (not
wrecked) boats for sale. No insurance company will pay more to fix the boat
than what you would pay to get

I got another AH-4000 from FleaBay. It was advertised as being a backup hardly
used in great condition. Well…….not really. It did look nice, not much sun
fading, but two rollers were broken in the drive. I know how to fix these, but
took an easier way out and combined this drive with two other

Bruce,
You can get some useful info from the NADA Guides. For example, a 1980 C
36/SL has a base average value of $28,900. But this was without any options
selected (i.e. canvas, electronics, …)

That’s a lot of boat for $15,500.
I noticed it has the old style windows. They can be be replaced with Lewmar

Bruce,
Trying to assess a “replacement” figure on your 36 is purely market and
condition driven. You can find C 36s in sailable condition on Yachtworld
ranging in price from $15-60K depending on year, model, and how well they’re
outfitted. If your insurance company has yet to make a
I am confused. Do you want to fix a boat or buy a boat?
A badly damaged older boat will usually cost a lot more to repair than it would
cost to just buy another one.
The original 36 (not the 110 or 34/36) seems to run around $20K to $30K.
Extensive repairs would cost 3 or 4 times that.
Joe
Terribly sorry for your loss. The repair cost is beyond justification.
Replacement boats can be readily found in a wide range of conditions and
prices but $50k to $75k is probably in the ballpark.
