I also remove my large hatch cover (32” x 32”). After replacing the lens a few years ago, we had a stretch of –15 F temperatures for two or three days, and the aluminum contracted so much that the lens was pushed out. It settled back in when the temperature rose, but the seal was shot. From:

I'm going to depart from the consensus. I remove my compasses for the winter. I started doing so after a large bubble developed on the compass on my 34. I had Viking do a rebuild and began removing the compass for winter storage thereafter. No bubbles after that. I suppose if it were diffic
