Birders,
Some of the sightings on our bird walk this a.m. at Barr Lake State Park were:
1 - Great Horned Owl (roosting near the 1st benches on the Niedrach trail)
12 - Black-bellied Plovers (8 were flying around and the others were on the
shore along the Niedrach trail and seen from the board wa
Bob Zilly, Mary and I went on a multi-lake tour today, hitting a dozen
Boulder and Weld county lakes. Most predominant species seen today--Western
Grebe's everywhere. Never seen this many in my life, much less in one day.
Highlights as follows:
Baseline Res: 2 SURF SCOTER (female), reported by C
Jackson Reservoir was home to over a thousand Franklin's Gulls, which I
thought was a large number this late in the year for that location. There was
one Clark's Grebe among a hundred Westerns. An Eastern Screech Owl
responded to playback just across the road from the Visitor's Center on the

BACA COUNTY:
Cassin's Finch - 1 at Cottonwood Canyon
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 2-3 at Cottonwood Canyon
Evening Grosbeak - 1 at Two Buttes Reservoir, below the dam
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 at Two Buttes Reservoir, below the dam
Mary Cay Burger and I birded Cherry Creek Res this morning.
Oddest find was one Cattle Egret (photographed) hanging out with ~150
American White Pelicans on a spit of sand on the SW side of the lake! It,
or another one, circled over us when we were in the Cottonwood Wetlands on
the west side o
1 Eastern Meadowlark (possibly Lillians...?)
Lots of good raptor activity-- Bald Eagles (4), Red-Tails, (6),
Harriers (6)
On the water: Innumerable Western Grebes and Ring-Billed gulls; many
ducks (Pintails, Shovelers, Gadwalls, Bufflehead, Am. Wigeons,
Redheads, Ring-Necked.) Large rafts of R
Just had a beautiful White-throated Sparrow at my window. The three stripes on
the head were quite yellow. I guess by the book they are to be tan.

After an absence of 5 or 6 months, I just had 8 bushtits at my suet feeder
(near Orchard and Colorado Blvd)
yard bird: white-thr sparrow on 10/21
I saw what were probably A Hilf's 100 or so sandhill cranes before 9 AM
10/22; they were in 2 V formations, headed southeast, just south of Cherry

The black-throated blue warbler was easily found this morning at Veteran's Park
in Canon City. It was with a flock of yellow-rumped warblers. There was also
a flock of about twenty cedar waxwings.
At Tunnel Drive, I spent about two hours looking for the golden-crowned sparrow
without succ
I refound the Yellow-throated Warbler and Northern Parula this morning (10/24)
at Lake Estes. The Yellow-throated was seen on three different occasions
between 7:30 and 11:00. The Parula was seen on two occasions, but wasn't seen
after after 9:00.
