It has been tough sledding in Lamar (Prowers) since last Sunday, mostly because
when it's over 90 degrees, snow melts, and sleds don't work all that well. It
is VERY dry down here but, surprisingly, the vegetation (very advanced for the
season) looks pretty good.

Thanks to Jeanne's great spot, we were also able to find the Prothonotary
Warbler at about 11:00 this morning in the same area listed by John Maynard in
his post.
A few YRWA were also in the vicinity. We did not venture out
This morning our first Black-chinned Hummingbird returned to our backyard in
Green-Mtn. The last couple of days have also brought in a Lincoln's Sparrow
and White-crowned. It looks like a few migrants are finally moving through!

New birder Andrew from Denver and I watched the Sonderman Park Prothonotary
Warbler forage at the base of willows and up to about 25' as it moved from
the bridge by the old beaver dam (upstream from the location given in this
morning's reports) upstream about 100 yards. This
We’ve banded 105 birds thus far this week at Chico Basin Ranch. Steve Brown
