We started our first night of owl searching last evening and found three
Northern Saw-whet Owls and a single vocalizing Northern Pygmy-Owl.
We were able to see two of the three saw-whet owls as they were
vocalizing near the trail.
The pygmy-owl was too far up the hill to search out

The Tundra Swans are still coming and going between Cottonwood Marsh at
Walden Ponds and the Valmont Reservoir. Having just returned from Belize,

Another birder we met on the trail today was kind enough to point out a
Great Horned nest right along the trail in Bear Creek Lake Park today. The
female is sitting the nest, and the male was napping on the next branch up
in a Cottonwood. Another hiker pointed out a Great Horned sitting
Just heard from more birders from the Cherry Creek DFO trip.
Later this afternoon on the spit, the Iceland Gull made an appearance along
with a pink-bellied Franklin's Gull.
Seems like a changing of the guard is going on , with the promise of spring
in the air!
