For CFOers headed to Cortez for the convention, here's a heads-up about some

that includes Lucy's warbler, whimbrel, northern saw-whet owl, and
Big turnover this morning among migrants. Highlights were:
Townsend's Warbler
Plumbeous Vireo
Both grosbeaks
Nearby at cemetery:

Hi COBirders,
A warm, clear, calm day at Chico Basin Ranch (RMBO Banding Station, El Paso Co,
fee), therefore few birds, at what should be the peak of migration. Sigh.
But we did band a new Gray-cheeked Thrush, not as brown-tinged in the tail as
the one last week. Also our First-of-Season W
Like Chico, we also have fewer birds on this warm, calm day. Banded 17
birds, plus caught 2 birds banded in prior years, including a Yellow Warbler
banded as an adult male in 2007, then recaptured in 08 and 09 but not since
until today. That means at least an 8 year old bird! (Longevity record
For those of you that may remember my posts from last year (or perhaps the
write-up on this story in the CFO Journal last winter); we had a male
broad-tailed hummingbird that I first noticed in May of 2012 sometime at our

I noticed that it was consistently (100% of
At Latham Reservoir on the south side of Weld CR 48 there were 6
Black-bellied Plover and 2 Whimbrel found by myself and Dick Schottler.
Checked Stewart's Pond on CR 46 just east of US 85.Nothing of note and it
is going fry rapidly.

You received this message because
Crow Valley CG today was birdy but not outstanding in terms of rarities.
Suffice it to say no Cerulean Warbler was seen despite a recently unvetted
eBird report, and lots of searching by several veteran Colorado birders.
Best birds that I saw at CVCG during a morning visit and a brief evening
