Hello birders,
I live in northwest Fort Collins and yesterday afternoon my husband and I
had a first spring male summer tanager hanging around the suet for several
hours. He was there again this morning. It is unmistakable in its
markings. We live near Reservoir Ridge just up the hill from
Last year, I confirmed breeding for Orchard Oriole at White Rocks and we
may have them again this year.
A singing male was at the bend north of the RR tracks, I.e., the SE corner
of the lake.

Hi, all.
If you were at Cortez, and many of you were, then you know there were some
great birds (and herps)--and some great human-interest stories. We're putting
together a Convention Retrospective, to appear on the CFO website. To that end,
would you be so kind as to email me any photos
As I was birding to work on my bike I heard the Northern Parula singing in
some european poplar trees at the same place I had it on Sunday (05/19).
Here is a link to the location if anyone wants to try and refind it,
http://goo.gl/maps/IT00j
I also saw a pair of Chimney Swifts chasing each
Does CFO have/share economic impact of each convention with birders
and local state media? We know birding makes an economic impact. I
assume the CFO Board selects the convention site--with that--
wouldn't it be great for local Colorado communities--through public
outreach--bid (no monies) to

Make sure when posting a sighting that you include the county of the
sighting in the subject line.
There are 64 counties in Colorado and county listing is popular among
COBirders. Others are only interested in their local patch, so a quick
scan of the subject line in all that is needed.
Thanks
Had a Veery (Western race) at Golden Ponds south of the creek along the
concrete bike path this morning. Just south of the spillway.

I would also add, there are a number of volunteers who try and extract
information from COBirds for CFO's quarterly journal and for ABA's North
American Birds. These volunteers are regional and have specific counties
they cover. It makes it much easier on them if they can search COBirds by
A lucky brake from my bike ride produced a spankin' Townsend's Warbler along
the Coal Creek trail between Vista Pointe and old town Erie.
The bird was in a couple of cottonwoods right next to the creek, just west of
the gas well next to the trail.

The summer tanager showed up this morning again at about 6 AM on the suet
and then when I came home for lunch a squirrel was around, but as soon as
the squirrel left the tanager came back. With the northerly wind he may
stay around for a while. The black-headed grosbeak is NOT happy that the
While birding with my friend Sue Kenney, she spotted both the Indigo

In response to what Ted Floyd and Nick Komar have already posted about the 2013

You might think I'm crazy, but this afternoon I found an immature
Red-shouldered Hawk at the Lamar Community College woods. When I came
across it, my first thought was, Are you freakin' kidding me? This looks
exactly like the bird I reported yesterday at Two Buttes. Surely I can't
be so lucky that
I visited several locations in northeast Colorado during the past 36 hours,
and I found similar things to what has been reported -- migrants here and
there but not in huge numbers. Wind made birding challenging at times

We got to Colorado late yesterday for a visit. I've been looking forward to

interesting sightings.

I was hoping/expecting today to be busy, given the sort of unsettling

Yesterday I refound a female American Redstart that Rich Miller had found
