I wanted to share a couple of my recent observations. CCSP one of the few
bodies of water with low water lately. There is alot exposed shoreline &
mud. I did sink up to my knee boots in the mud so be prepared.

Caspian Tern & a Curlew I haven’t seen since on Ebird Slerts.

Yesterday, April 8, I visited Cherry Creek SP. Birds of note at the marina
include a group of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, HORNED GREBES, WESTERN
GREBES,CLARKS GREBES, and CALIFORNIA GULL. Two CLARKS GREBES were at the
marina. They were my first of the year. At the Cottonwood Creek Wetlands, there

I didn't get a chance to post since yesterday afternoon, although I've been
awake most of the night (kids). Anyway, yesterday afternoon my 4 yr old
daughter and I relocated 2 rusty blackbirds along the shoreline south of the
parking lots on the east side boat ramp where they've continued. W
To complete a very nice afternoon of birding at Cherry Creek, found 2
Yellow-Rumped Warblers between the Mountain Loop and Lake Loop. Also a
few Swallows briefly glimpsed ( I'm just not good at swallows on the
wing) A flicker carefully inspecting a nest hole. Definitely Spring

At around 5PM at the marina at the west end of Cherry Creek SP last night
the young Glaucous Gull first reported by Gene Rutherford continued, along
with Herring Gulls, Ring-billed Gulls, an adult Lesser Black-Backed Gull,

Had a decent trip to CCSP today in search of Bald Eagles. Saw a total of 7,
most standing on the edge of the ice in the middle of the lake. One fully
mature and the rest were varying juvenile years. There was a juvenile in a
tree by the east entrance marina. He sure wasn't winning any b

Tomorrow the Fall Count at Cherry Creek State Park(fee area) starts at 7AM
at the Marina (next to the dam). This will be an all day count so bring your
lunch, snacks, water etc. Be prepared for some walking on trails. Bathrooms
are plentiful. If you to arrive late, you are still welcome to join us.
Despite serious winds that sounded like I was standing next to a jet, I did see
(Sun. afternoon 1:30):
* a great blue heron at the marina, on a post out in the water
* 2 male hooded mergansers, a couple of common golden eyes, and a dozen
shovelers doing the circle dance
* a beautiful bald eagle o

juvenile Glaucous and Iceland Gulls (Thanks to Glenn Walbek for first

My wife Laura and I spend about 3 hours at Cherry Creek State Park. There were
a numberof other birders there as well as some good birds. We did not see
either the Caspian Ternor the Neotropic Cormorant. Of the 42 species that we

Peter Gent, Bob Righter, and I visited Cherry Creek State Park Saturday
morning. Our highlight was a breeding-plumaged Red-necked Grebe. It was out
near the center of the lake toward the dam-our best view was from the point on
the Lake Loop. We also saw a Long-billed Curlew at the so
FOS Osprey and Black Crowned Night Heron seen in the park today while
running. The osprey was flying south from the res with a fish, continueing
south out of the park.

Hello all,
I made a short late afternoon visit to Cherry Creek State Park. I observed the
previously reported Neotropic Cormorant at the marina, and the flock of 7
White-faced Ibises at Cottonwood Pond. There were at least 4 Bonaparte's Gull
among the more numerous Franklin's Gull over the cent
I spent some time at Cherry Creek SP today, mainly looking at gulls. I found
an adult Mew Gull, 2 pale first cycle Thayer's Gulls and a 2nd cycle Lesser
Black-backed Gull. Bleached first cycle feathers made the Thayer's Gulls look
like Iceland Gulls, and the Herring Gulls look like Thayer's Gu
We went out today to see the avocet that was discussed yesterday as
noted below and saw a Semipalmated Plover. Several people were around
so we felt more comfortable with the ID.

At Cherry Creek Reservoir this afternoon about 4 to 4:30 PM, I saw an immature
Sabine's Gull toward the center and east side of the southern part of the lake
(south of the swim beach). There was a dark jaeger sitting near the center of
the lake. I could not see much in the way of fie
While birding along the leaf-strewn, shoreline path between the Prairie Loop
and the Mountain Loop at CCSP, I flushed a Common Poorwill at about 0945 today.
Otherwise, I found few migrants - just a dozen widely scattered Yellow-rumped
Warblers and the previously seen Great-tailed Grackle, which

friend in her Duathlon.

I spent the morning birding Cherry Creek S P. I always try to pay it
a visit when I'm in Denver because it's nearly always rewarding and
today was no exception.
I entered the park at the Cottonwood Creek trail and began with the
"new" wetlands. They weren't hugely productive, with a pai

A fine birding day today in the rain sleet and spitting snow.
Among the highlights were one Wilson's Phalarope, 2 Least Sandpipers and 6
Semipalmated Plovers at the new wetlands.
At the now underwater spit in the southeast corner there were at least 60
White-faced Ibis, a single
Cherry Creek State Park this morning:
- 30 sandhill cranes in the very SE corner of the lake
- fly over of 400+ more cranes about 8am
Then there was the mixed bag of birds after that:
- Peregrine Falcon herding an inflight flock of starlings before plucking
one from the flock

Among the most interesting birds this morning was a Pacific Loon, an
American Avocet and a Black-bellied Plover. There were many (40 plus)
Mountain Bluebirds in several locations in the park. A single Barn Swallow
was working just above the water.

Not too much happening but had 4 first-year Franklin's Gulls and one Black Tern
off the jet ski boat ramp.
On the east side of Shop Creek Trail I had a small group of birds with 3
Wilson's Warblers, 4 Western Wood-Pewees, and 2 Orange-crowned Warblers.
I'm thinking we need to some bad weather
Just an FYI for people not to forget the jet ski launch while at the park.
Yesterday, there was a large number of gulls, two Black Terns, and two Stilt

blackbird and a house wren, with Tree, Barn and N. Rough-winged Swallow

This morning at about 6:30 at Cherry Creek in the newer wetland area, we saw a
peregrine falcon, 2 semipalmated plovers (along with about 8 killdeer), six
long billed dowitchers, a western sandpiper, 4 least sandpipers, 5 lesser
yellowlegs, a Wilson's phalarope, and 2 savannah sparrows, along w
Unable to locate the Chestnut Collard Larkspur or the American Golden
Plover seen yesterday. I really tried to make all the Killdeer into
the Plover, but just did not work. The pond by the airplane park and
the new wetlands south of the pond were swollen 2-3 times their normal
size.
