Practically every year recently, a sub-adult white morph Reddish Egret has
shown up in late summer at John Martin Reservoir or nearby bodies of water
like Lake Hasty or Verhoeff Lake in Bent County. In fact, I think many
Colorado birders with this species on their state list got there

I had plans to meet Eric DeFonso to look for the white-morph Reddish
Egret at Lake Hasty early this morning. Eric found it before I got
there, and told me it had flown away from the lake in a northeasterly
direction.

There actually is an isolated pond on the west side of the highway 109. It
probably went down in there, but I can't see it from the road. The pond can
be seen a little bit from highway
There appears to be a dark morph Reddish Egret at Lake Cheraw today. This
sighting was submitted to e-bird by people I don't know, with a good photo.
Since this is a Colorado Review Species, hopefully the observers submit the

The white morph Reddish Egret first found on the west end of John Martin
Reservoir on August 18th is still present as of August 27th. Easiest
viewing access is from the north, but the bird is usually about 1 1/2
miles distant from the vantage point on cliffs above the mudflats.

west end of John Martin Reservoir in Bent County. It is most visible
from cliffs on the north side of the reservoir, although the bird is
usually a mile or so away on the south side of the reservoir just east

At 11:00 the Reddish Egret was missing from the flats, but he flew in
from points East at about 11:35. Classic Reddish Egret behavior - the
scampering across the flats, wobbling around, stabbing. It flew off
to a point on the flats, to the East of the willows, but closer to the
South
