Hello, Birders.
Walden Ponds, Boulder County, yesterday afternoon, Sat., Nov. 1, was a nice
venue for pondering subspecies and subspecies-groups. Come to think of it,
anywhere and anytime in Colorado are great for pondering subspecies and
subspecies-groups; that's one of the wonderful things ab
Hello, Birders.
I walked around Walden/Sawhill Ponds a bit yesterday afternoon, Thanksgiving
Day, Thursday, Nov. 22nd. Kinda slow out there, but I found 2 Swamp Sparrows in
the back end of Sawhilll. Assuming they're different from the 5 that Hannah and
Andrew and I found earlier in the week (t

Hello, Birders.
Andrew and I explored the west side of Cottonwood Marsh, Boulder County, at
around 5:30 p.m. this evening, Sunday, Feb. 4th. The night was crystal clear
and cold with deep snow cover about. A lovely dusk chorus on this early spring
(well...) evening: tinkling American Tree S
The photos I posted last evening of the nesting Marsh Wrens might give the
impression that I had waded out in the marsh and was right on top of the birds.
I can assure you that illusion is simply because I have a pretty good camera
with a pretty good 400 mm lens, and I had nice light. I absolute
i just returned home from Cottonwood Marsh at Walden Ponds in Boulder
where there were a few good birds:
One giant Caspian Tern as well as 3 Forster's Terns, on the small rock

Hello, Birders.
It was supposed to be sunny and 60 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon, Thursday,
March 24th, at Walden Ponds, Boulder County. Instead, there were lowering
clouds and falling temperatures, with a beautiful snow squall blowing in off
the Flatirons. Love it.
Anyhow, Hannah and And
Hello, Birders.
Walden Ponds, Boulder County, was nice and birdy early this Sunday morning,
August 22nd.
The first bird I saw, as I turned in from 75th Street, was a Peregrine Falcon
flying east just above the treetops.
Notable landbird migrants included a Northern Waterthrush and an Indigo
After reading Walter Szeliga's post regarding the possible Mexican Mallard, I
decided to brave the cold wind at Walden Ponds. I did not find the Mexican
Mallard, but I did find the beautiful Cinnamon x Blue-winged Teal. It can be
seen in the rare and uncommon gallery below. I also saw the larg

Hello, Birders.
Here's a recap of the Boulder Bird Club outing held earlier today, Saturday,
Aug. 15th, at Walden Ponds, Boulder County. We had more participants (59) than
bird species (52). With the south winds continuing (will they ever let up?),
there are hardly any migrants about. Anyhow
Eighteen birders participated in the Boulder Bird Club First Sunday Bird (and
Toad) Walk this morning. Highlights included at least two, and maybe three
Green Herons, Snowy Egret, Wood Ducks with young. A juvenile Green Heron
perched close at the top of a tree for great looks for all. We saw at
Hello, Birders.
About 15 of us with the Boulder Bird Club visited Walden Ponds and adjacent
Sawhill Ponds earlier this evening, Thursday, May 14th.
Our highlight was a ghostly Barn Owl in loping flight right in front of us at
dusk. It was a brief look, but it was great.
