My clear preference is for FIOS over comcast for internet. The FIOS tv service
left somethings to be desired. The cable box and its software is c-r-*-p (yes,
it is crop).
Perhaps unrelated to the set-top problems is that channels (particularly the
local
channels, and PBS) drop out all the time.
Is cable really supposed to have faster speeds? If so,
that has to assume no contention with other users.
Isn't FIOS bandwidth allocated on a per-connection basis?

Good point Tom. Advertising would not
be a massive industry if it did not affect
market outcomes (all hail the sovereign consumer!)

The only contention with other users on FiOS is at the CO and the backbone.
The fiber to the prem is a home run and not a shared medium.

nbc is probably 1080p
espn is maybe 540.
i can see the net strings clearly on nbc. the scoreboard is clear when looking

on espn, the net is a gray smear, and the scoreboard is fuzzy.

Unless somthing has changed, there is no 1080p broadcasts yet.

All I can say is that LCD/Plasma TV's are the best way to go for clarity.
I have a conventional in the bedroom and a flatpanel in the Living
room and the difference is absolutely clear. I can read the text and
clearly see it.
I also have TIVO on both sets and the TIVO menu is crystal clear
how do you compare the lcd plasma with dlp, or with 3 gun lcd/dlp? best buy
or circuit city have pretty good lineups for comparison.
as mike points out, broadcasts are 1080i at the major networks, however, the
way i read this, there is sometimes a 1080p datastream in the signal
I have not heard great things about DLP.
On the others I have no idea. I just know from what I have
personally seen at home and other.
To me that is the acid test. I do not have specialized video going
to feed all my TV's so I can show the best it can possibly do.

I have not heard great things about DLP.
One of the guys that is a regular on Leo LaPorte's
TechGuy podcasts seems to prefer DLP's over plasma or
LCD in some applications. Evidently DLP on the
widescreen (theater) is a no-brainer.shrugs

In many of their past reviews they would talk about what was right
with the American made car and then give it lousy ratings when it did
not deserve it. (In checking their charts they usually were on par
with the foreign made one)

Well I can address that.
I still see people thinking of games as being Donkey Kong
on a C64. Nothing wrong with that, that was OK.
In the current century an ultra-fast PC is a basic requirement

Not necessarily a bad idea but you are going to get slow
ping speeds to a geosynchronous satellite. It's that pesky
speed of light issue that we've
