Hi,
I've just upgraded from 7.1 to 7.2, having tried out a few of the betas
before. It looks like some bugs have crept in during the conversion from
cooker to full release, so I thought I'd report them here.
Firstly, Netscape doesn't start for normal users if Mandrake 7.1 nsmail
and .netscape di
companies (BT
for one) do not assign static IP addresses. I can't work out how to do it with
LinuxConf. -Karl

(man page attached) suggests
that the driver should be run SUID root and also not in pure filtering mode
under a spooling daemon such as lpd. I presume this applies to CUPS as
well.
Can you see a way around this?

rinter setup dialog with Oki4w included in the list, but it never
actually surfaced in the final version. I presume someone was tinkering
with it at Mandrake.
If it's not going in but you have a workaround, I'd be interested.

It's possibly also worth noting that Athlon/Duron chips optimise best on -O1 at
present under gcc-2.95. I don't know why. -Karl

As soon as I installed the new mandrake_desk, Enlightenment vanished
from my list of gdm/kdm window managers. It's easy to for the user to
fix, but probably worth doing it properly from your end. -Karl

nterpretation of the Top output is that I shouldn't be using any
more than about 45 MB, which seems a bit steep to me.
Naturally on a 64 MB machine I want to cut this down. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

kdm/background problems
kdm basic font is blocky (courier?), and the background doesn't appear -
only the traditional x black'n'white pattern. On the up-side it detected
true users on first boot, which is the only time I've ever known it succeed
in that.

Hi,
What sort of state is Cooker in at the moment? I'm considering doing a
complete install via nfs/ftp and was wondering whether this is likely to
work without lots of tweaking.
