first off...as i said, resizing windows or "adding partitions" was a
no-no".
did that and when booting back to dos and using pqmagic stated,

granted...the install partitioner doesn't work well at all with any preexisting
windows partitions.
have been advised by powerquest that once you use a partitioner, don't switch
to others as it may cause other problems.
you'll need to go back into the mdk install prg and del the partitions that
ey've
been in the past and it said it coudn't do it.
By this stage, I'm fast losing confidence in MDK. Simple things that worked
in the past now don't work.

Thank you, Corrupt Windows partition is what I ended up with.
using such a CD to start the installation may result in some cases in
corruption of your Windows partition if it is resized during the
installation.
