GLX seesm to work fine on my iMac, although a bit slow. Adding:
Load "glx"
to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 was all it required. As you mention, direct
rendering is not there, so the speed is quite painfully slow unless one
cuts back on the rendered images in the games. I did run

It looks like Beta2 may be release candidate, then I assume I'll be moving
on to try and catch up with the main distribution. We have a 'bot that
tracks the cooker packages and builds on PPC, but apparently these files
are not in a publicly accessible area at the moment. The problem packages

DRI is not in the 2.4.4 kernel on PPC. It failed to build and I did not

Right. Although Mandrake/PPC is still using XFree86 4.0.3, so that is an
issue too :) (Yes I know that I can compile 4.1 from srpm, but..)
Is the PPC tree actually frozen to try and make a 8.0 or 8.1 release? I've
noticed the x86 tree seems to have lots of activity again. We only seem to

OK - I checked the config for Stew's 2.4.4-6.2 kernel and indeed, DRI is
not enabled. So, you'll have to recompile to get it (and it may not recompile
- I was having issues under YDL-1.2).
In any case - in theory, in the 'Character devices' section of the kernel,

I personally am speaking entirely hypothetically, just so ya know ;)
However - I'm pretty sure that you need to have DRI compiled for your kernel
(which it may or may not be for Stew's 2.4.4-6.2) before XF-4.1 can access
it. This may be the problem.

What did you find out about GLX
Thanks Dippy,
I'll check all those out and get back to the list. We may not have GLX
extensions in X, like some of those messages say, but I'll verify. I'm
headed down to TN, so I won't be back online until tomorrow most likely.
I'll try to patch bluefish to call up mozilla or konqueror. You
To continue my previous train of thought - do the following:
xdpyinfo | grep -i glx
If you don't get anything, then you don't have the GLX extension. I'm running
XF-4.0.3, from the Beta1 iso and I get the following output:
GLX
SGI-GLX
So, I'm guessing that I have the proper support (iMac DV
There may very well be applications (games especially) that simply aren't
supported on hardware that doesn't provide the proper support. For example,
the GLX extension has to do with OpenGL support - and if its looking for
that extension in XFree86, it may be needing hardware 3D acceleration ..
Well, You don't have to TRY to break everything ;^), but yes report it
either here or bugzilla. David and I would like to get the next release
as solid as we can. I was just getting ready to do beta2 ISO's, since I
hadn't heard many application bug reports, but maybe it's too soon, if

Stew,
Did you want us to try to break everything we can and report to you on here?
Like in the Mandrake Control Center, the Security settings don't seem to be
working. I can not change the setting. Some of the games don't play.. things
like that.
