For me it works once, depending which I click first *acquire as
source* or *acquire
as target*. The first selection fills the corresponding tiles, but the
second click crashes dt. I tested both with the official 3.4.0 and

I think the issue you are facing is that dt remembers the last placement of
the original and the snapshot. Each time you click the center of the image
the places rotate 90 degrees and the next time you open a snapshot dt
remembers where you were when you left.

I'm interested if something is missing. Those skulls represent something
you have had and potentially worked on and now they have disappeared. Is it

Linux will
recognize the additional Linux style xmps, but not the Windows style.
Windows doesn't recognize either.

I also use darktable only for image processing and have the same setting as
Robert; database=:memory: This setting will always automatically read the
.xmp files as you are always starting with a fresh database.
