I compile myself from a release tag, and cherry-pick features / bug
fixes that I want (not always possible, but sometimes). So I hope to get
the best from both worlds.

Whats more, if you can read the code a little, you may be able to write it
a little too! You may be able to fprintf stderr some things you are curious
about, as I was when I was first experimenting with scanning color
negatives. Ok I have some programming background so YMMV.
