gnome-shell did start with --replace from a terminal, but won't start at
login using the Ubuntu package (which isn't really that surprising). So
I do think the problem is in libgjs0b, but using the Ubuntu package as a
temporary replacement isn't a work-around.

I can't seem to trace the root of the problem, and I haven't seen any
activity from upstream. I will keep looking nonetheless
If anyone else know something more than me about the exact handling of

wrong: did the person who did the build install a custom version of
libgssapi-krb5-2 which has not yet been uploaded / made it to
debian/testing?
solved by use of aptitude get install libgssapi-krb5-2:
