I had similar problem (actually also on 486 33 MHz.) I've solved it by
overwriting master boot record. I.e. put in /etc/lilo.conf
boot=/dev/hda instead of boot=/dev/hda1
and run lilo again. That should fix it.

I just got a new PC ( YEA!!!) and loaded WindowsNT onto it ( BOO!!!) to get me
by until I'm more familiar with Linux. I downloaded the Dual boot Linux from NT
HOW-TO and followed the instructions, more or less. Here is my current

WindowsNT resides on hda1, the bootable partition. 2Gb.

Did you change *anything* else on the system between when it worked and
now? Specifically check the printer port device setup. The printer
numbers got changed not so long ago (i.e. lp0 and lp1 may be reversed).

in your local kde ftp site, look in /pub/kde/Incoming/debian to get the
latest *.deb's. This solved the problem for me.

You might be better off avoiding ATI graphics boards under Linux. ATI is
not cooperative with the developer community and drivers tend to take a

Now I have X windows up and well it is cool so far. Just so everyone knows,
when you D/L and install 3.3.3.1 of XFree86 you must also D/L the stuff in
their "Servers" directory. Soon as I got the new SVGA server things got much

I have a problem with printing something other than dvi-files with
lprng/magicfilter on slink. Somehow magicfilter doesn't call gs (I can
see dj500-filter in top a short time), but lpd thinks, it has printed
with sucess: Any hints?

Notihing happens.
But I have looked in lp-errs and the are many lines with the following
