I tried running `saned -d 128' on sarah, rather than using inetd, but in
that case I cannot connect even with telnet (connection refused) and
saned does not appear to see the connection attempt (using strace to
monitor it).

If you fill in the host box (even with `localhost') pgaccess tries to
make a TCP/IP connection, which requires `postmaster -i'. Clear the
host field; this will make pgaccess use a UNIX socket connection.

How /var/postgres became /var/lib/postgres I do not know. Earlier
today there was no problem and I did not edit that file for months.

full amount of RAM.
This particular user actually specified by mistake more physical

The device to use for PS/2 is /dev/psaux, not ttyS0.
