rebooting.

How do I upgrade my debian packages to 3.2
Should the maintainer do this?

As far as I know, there are no Debian packages for Quake II 3.20 yet. I
uninstalled the Debian packages and installed 3.20 by hand. I think that
the two could coexist, actually

Thanks, I hadn't realized it was out. (I don't actually
Howdy. I'm running Quake II on my mostly slink, tiny bit of potato box.
I've got a Diamond Monster 3d card, and I'm using the 3dfxGL. It works
pretty well, but I have a couple of annoying problems.
I've made the quake2.real binary suid root, and I _don't_ have the real

They have to be in ~/.quake/id1/maps/ , as the wrapper script does not
link .bsp's, only .pak files.

This still doesn't work :( well, not running as root anyway...
would ~/maps do?
Simple suggestion - try running it under strace and see where it looks
