in the basement of my building. The person stripped out everything he could (even the EDO RAM). But I think he didn't need the modem. I took it out and tested it on my box. Hi, Thanks for your help. I used Knoppix to install Debian. Knoppix has its own utilities for Internet connections. I used it to configure my account. When I was using 115200, the modem was dialing but not connecting. But on reducing the rate to 52000, it connected on 2nd attempt. Now its working
