woops, i jumped the gun somewhat, it works now, but weirdly. the
monitor's leds are flashing on and off, 3 in a group, at a medium rate,
and i see a screen. i also forgot to include what kind of monitor it is.

but in good shape

driver to play nice with my monitor, and alas, i fail miserably each
time.
symptoms are as follows:
when i exec startx, the server starts up fine, but when the monitor
switches mode (going from fb console to fb xfree, dun
5. and the load: 1.32 0.81 0.64
also, can you tell me what would cause this, if you have an idea on what
this might be?
thanks,
simon

Hi,
I'm trying to work out what the intended purpose of x-window-manager is.
This is prompted by bug 194195.
wdm thinks that x-window-manager should provide an X session with a way
to launch applications and so on.
xfwm4 ships as an alternative to x-window-m
. Reinstalling (as in, apt-get
--reinstall install) all the packages xlibs depends on seems to fix
it.
Much though I'd prefer it to be something else, it does look like it
might be a problem with the TMTA cpus . . .

Ok.
Thanks very much for dealing with this bug.
As a workaround, users can try to change their screen resolution.
