I can confirm this bug. Have it for a few weeks now.
Using a 64 bit Intrepid (proposed repository enabled).
I try to describe this behaviour in that way:
I start my computer but the ready, waiting to login drum sound is not there.

i renamed an existing pdf file to foo:bar.pdf and typed evince foo\:bar.pdf in
a terminal.
evince opened with an error message the specified location is not supported
however, double-clicking the same foo:bar.pdf in nautilus opens it in evince
without a problem...

Hmmm, seems annoying. I like to keep my desktop clear and sometimes
reboot Ubuntu 8.10 just to clear the clutter i manage to build-up
through using different folders over the network here.

I apologize for not experimenting properly.
It would seem that continuous view would/should
be the default, only for a similar behavior of most
other document viewers.

I also tried epdfview. It prints the page better than evince but makes
some other sort of errors but not far as worse as evince.
