I understand it is not like solving world hunger, but it is a pain. You
don't want the window list on top because that's where apps put their
menus, and you want to mouse there quickly. You don't want it on the
bottom if you use a laptop because you lose the bottom when you detach
from a large scre

Stephen Donnelly's right. Had the same problem, found this page, and
tasksel allowed me to install Gnome when I chose to install Ubuntu
Desktop.
I've been using apt-get install several times, right down to attempting
installing the gnome-keyring-manager package (which can't be installed).

In my case, although I can't see the certificate, all the functionality is
working. I can check signatures, encrypt and the s/mime public certificate get
automatically imported.

I tried running the suggested command and it failed - unable to connect.
I tried a number of things (tried to make sure SQLLITE was installed etc) and
got no where.
however - eventually I looked to see if photos.db existed and it did...
