This seems to be caused by the lazy loading behavior of the package history:
when the get_installed_date is first called,the apt history is not initialized
yet, thus it will return None (and we don't display that), and adds an idle
callback to rescan the history, which will properly initialize

The problem is a combination of GTK+, LCL and easyMp3gain, which should be okay
in Quantal, but not in Precise - it should be fixed in Precise, if not, please
reopen this bugreport.
If you take the *binary* packages from Debian/Quantal, it should work too.

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 32bit, and I am having this same
issue, I don't have a keyboard plugged into my system, I only use VNC to
connect to it. I have VirtualBox running with 3 active VMs, I noticed
it seems to happen as soon as I disconnect the VNC connection. I am
able to kill -9
I am running 12.04 Desktop 64bit with an ATI Radeon 6670.
I have encountered this bug as described above, dbus wildly blows up and
compiz eats memory while gsd churns on to no end.

As a test I left my computer connected to both wired _and_ wireless, and
that also repro'ed the bug after 1 day.
Update Manager was open with 4 updates, but it was working properly, so
probably the Update Manager hang before was unrelated.

Using a startup file with empathy -h does not always correct this. I'm
running empathy -h from a startup file and the correct status is not
reflected in the messaging indicator. If I run empathy -h manually
after logging in the indicator is showing the correct status. It would
seem that running it
