Hello Jose,
I did not see a deadline for this release candidate.
It also sounded like this RC was just provisional and another one should be
expected soon.
Do you have the next release candidate available for us to review?

That could send a wrong message to the community of current and prospective

Ryan,
I think you can add a section under Rejected Alternatives to elaborate on
why you feel combining the metrics for KRaft mode and legacy mode is not a
good idea. That could help clarify future questions such as the one raised

Xavier,
I think the reason for doing this is to make them independent so that it is
easier to design and implement the tracking for legacy mode (with
Zookeeper) and KRaft Mode (without ZK)

I was not able to edit the wiki page for the KIP.
When you have a moment, please could you grant me permissions?

Hi Everyone,
I noticed that the method signature in the KIP had the incorrect return
value.
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/KIP-633:+Drop+24+hour+default+of+grace+period+in+Streams
Should I go ahead and update this in the KIP? I just noticed the error
during my implementation
as well today.
Thanks for running this release, Mickael.

Hi Ming
This would be a useful metric from a monitoring perspective especially when
troubleshooting or diagnosing issues.
Are you looking to modify the Admin API for this capability to be added?
The metrics for quorum controllers, brokers, replicas and consumers may
need to be reported
I will build from source tomorrow morning, run validation checks and share
my findings and vote then.
Thanks for the reminder.

I just checked the documentation page and could not find any reference to
the KIP-631 configurations like process.roles, node.id and any of the
controller.quorum.* configs
https://kafka.apache.org/28/documentation.html
Were these left out on purpose or should there be included in the 2.8
1+ I agree.
I think besides just merging the changes, specific attention should be
brought to the KIP in the 3.0 release through blogs and tutorials to make
the community more aware of the change in 3.0, upcoming removal of
deprecated features in 4.0, it's prerequisites (broker version etc) and
Makes perfect sense to me
+1 as well.
Thanks Matthias.

No problem, I will assign in to you shortly.

Israel Ekpo created KAFKA-12658:
---
Summary: bin/kafka-metadata-shell.sh cannot find or load main
class org.apache.kafka.shell.MetadataShell
Key: KAFKA-12658
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-12658
I just noticed that with the latest release candidate, the binaries from
the Scala 2.13 and 2.12 tarballs are not finding the class for the meta
data shell
https://home.apache.org/~vvcephei/kafka-2.8.0-rc1/
It looks like kafka-run-class.sh is not able to load it.
Is this a known issue? Should I
Israel Ekpo created KAFKA-12644:
---
Summary: Add Missing Class-Level Javadoc to Decendants of
org.apache.kafka.common.errors.ApiException
Key: KAFKA-12644
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-12644
I have reviewed the KIP. The motivation makes sense and the recommended API
changes make sense as well.
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/KIP-633%3A+Drop+24+hour+default+of+grace+period+in+Streams
So +1
I would also like to volunteer to implement it if that is ok.
On Thu, Apr
