Date being the last piece of data in each line, I assume that
eliminating it will require a change in the tools, and should probably
be done after some milestone (such as 3.0).

format, how about either getting rid of the date string, or actually
using it?

at the moment it will not be necesary to keep the content in the field,
but in the future it will probably mandatory, so no need tu hurry but
keep it in mind.
So at the moment the tool can just silently ignore the data.
