You have to set your time zone first, then change your settings to use NTP. I ran into this the hard way as well. As soon as I set my time zone, let the changes take effect, then change to NTP, everything starts working correctly. Maybe the time zone setting could be moved to a separate

I am having this exact same issue. I can ping the internet using IP addresses, but not with www.example.com. Looking at the e-smith manager screen shows the e-smith server being a dns server. So, I am assuming that the e-smith server is querying itself. Where can I put in a different dns
