I'm not sure what you mean by "cable modems do not appear to have
clear abilities to set-up ports for telnet access", Andy. Please
elaborate.
Many cable systems do not assign you a fixed IP address, which makes
running a public server problematic. You can address this by using

While still negociating with my DSL ISP about the DSL modem they
helped kill, the Digital Cluster is down. I picked up a cable modem
today for 30 day free trial, speed seems good but the cable modems do
not appear to have clear abilities to set-up ports for telnet access.

I'm using the BUXCOMM Rascal Box. I had an earlier reply that suggested I
check the adjustment pot inside the rascal box and set it half-way. You
guys all have great suggestions and I will again attempt them when I get
home from work today. It's just very frustrating trying to get the transmit

Perhaps we need to pull it back to more specific digital
communications now that the traffic context has been established.
It is difficult to have a discussion as to how digital modes
may be more valuable in emergency and other traffic situations

Mike,
You need to give a bit more
information.
What radio are you trying to
interface?
What programs are you trying to use?
What kind of interface are you trying to
use?

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find in

ports when all that is listed is COM ports. I am sure there is a

I use vnc, which is free (as in free beer). I even use it to remote

part of the normal distribution.

Hi steve
Basically all the digi modes that run on sound card

The only thing you can't run, without the purchase

Have a look at Mix W and MultiPSK for

Do you have a "power out" setting for the meter on your rig? If you are
running below the ALC, your power out may only be 10-20watts maximum. Does
your rig have a "monitor" position that will let you listen to your outgoing
signal through your headphones? Just hook up the transmit side from your

I do this all the time. I use a linux computer running in multi-user mode with

Dave,
Inside the Buxcomm unit there should be a adjust pot, place that about
midway and leave it there. Then in your sound mixer program set the

Greetings,
I have a friend who is disabled and has a great deal of trouble
getting in and out of the shack. He was wondering if digi modes could
be worked across a LAN. I'm thinking maybe so, if the rig computer is

Rick,
There is a program on the net called "QuickMix". If you have to use
different sound card levels for different programs, this one will
allow you to save each setting for the purpose at hand. For example I
use different levels for my PSK software and RTTY software because of
