My DSL modem is dead and while I await a replacment I am reduced to ye
olde dial-up access. Thus the Cluster will be down for a few days and
my ability to moderate messages will be reduced.

Hello All,
Be kind to this new member... me.
Which digital mode interfaces have group members found compatible with
the Kenwood TS-850S radio? I am interested in operating PSK31 and
RTTY, as well as some of the other digital modes from my Dell laptop -

Rick,
There is a program on the net called QuickMix. If you have to use
different sound card levels for different programs, this one will
allow you to save each setting for the purpose at hand. For example I
use different levels for my PSK software and RTTY software because of
the power levels
Okay but it seems like I'm keying the
transmitterand get zero modulation (none of my meters on the radio move
but the TX light comes on).

Greetings,
I have a friend who is disabled and has a great deal of trouble
getting in and out of the shack. He was wondering if digi modes could
be worked across a LAN. I'm thinking maybe so, if the rig computer is
connected to the LAN and the software (like Digipan ) is shared on the
LAN. So,
I am sorry I brought the subject up and created such a firestorm.
Should the group owner desire it I well leave the group.

Dave,
Inside the Buxcomm unit there should be a adjust pot, place that about
midway and leave it there. Then in your sound mixer program set the
Wave slider to about the third hash mark from the bottom. Volume or
sound output place that about four hash marks from the bottom, the

Do you have a power out setting for the meter on your rig? If you are
running below the ALC, your power out may only be 10-20watts maximum. Does
your rig have a monitor position that will let you listen to your outgoing
signal through your headphones? Just hook up the transmit side from your
Hi steve
Basically all the digi modes that run on sound card
software will work on your 850, which is a good stable rig to run it
on
The only thing you can't run, without the purchase
of a fancy modem , would be pactor.
Have a look at Mix W and MultiPSK for
software

I use vnc, which is free (as in free beer). I even use it to remote
control one of the pskmail servers. In UBUNTU-5.10 vnc remote desktop is
part of the normal distribution.

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find in

ports when all that is listed is COM ports. I am sure there is a
simple answer but not
Mike,
You need to give a bit more
information.
What radio are you trying to
interface?
What programs are you trying to use?
What kind of interface are you trying to
use?

Perhaps we need to pull it back to more specific digital
communications now that the traffic context has been established.
It is difficult to have a discussion as to how digital modes
may be more valuable in emergency and other traffic situations
