During the last RTTY contest I was happened to be trying to listen to the 20m Beacons and there was a local OM running stations with his space tone on top of the CW from the beacon. He was there for a while so I called him right before W6WX beaconed, suggested nicely he qsy, then W6WX ID'd. H

The math is all fine and dandy , but WHY pick a frequency close to the beacons? That's where all the logic fails! There is a large chunk of relatively little used frequencies on both sides of the beacon frequency. For argument's sake why not make the guard frequency +/- 3 khz? why not clump the ALE
