Lya, the answer you seek depends greatly on the type/size of the
project, the allocated timeline, available resources, budget, etc.
I prefer doing small groups in sprints of ~five users, one at a time.
This can be remote or in person; I prefer in person b/c facial

Ugh, that last part was worded wrong:
You could do this pre-work in time it takes to do 2-3 development sprints. But,
you have explored more designs then you ever would have been able to in over a
dozen development sprints.
That should have sad:

There's nothing wrong with data grids per se. Tufte himself recommends
the use of data tables on numerous occasions. That's why we have one
in Flex.
Ok, thanks for the data initial data dump guys! I'll go away, have a
read, have a think, and probably inadvertently necro post this topic
once I
Hi,
I would just like to point out this great article

I get that, really, and never meant to indicate that I'd expect
anything to be universally applicable

telling me about.
I felt the distinction was being stated in fairly absolutist terms, and wanted

Hi all,
I'm working on a web project where the client is sold on using voice on the
site i.e. having narration for explanations.
An example I've been given is Oil of Olay:

According to this article by Jacob Nielson, the Home button is still
needed.
A fairly large minority of users still don't know that they can get
to a site's homepage by clicking its logo, so I still have to
recommend having an explicit home link on all interior pages (not

I keep calling these models prototypes but it gets us into trouble. We
either need to qualify the term (e.g. Design Prototype, Conceptual
Prototype) or use a different term like model.
Agreed. The stuff I usually create barely qualifies as a prototype as I
think that term is intended. It's
Hi Oleg,
somebody recently asked the same question about using tablets (with a

I too wonder about this.
Really good and experienced designers, I have found, are capable of
creating designs with few user problems. That's not surprising we
can employ the same process that we use in expert reviews to find
problems and fix them.
Nonetheless, usability testing is an important

I think you have pointed out a critical issue for the IxD profession.
If, as you say, people involved in the whole process of software
creation consider interaction designers to be a small part of the
total process, we will not achieve our potential as a profession.

Hi,
I would like to know opinions or prior experiences on the issue of
handling 'text entry on screen' for UI's which are controlled by a
remote (a remote with keypad).
Do your users prefer a particular approach over other?
Is there a best (or a good) remote keypad layout for text entry?
How do
Hi all,
Is there any way to test the reliability of affinity diagrams?
Thanks,

Technology has tendencies which affect our behavior perniciously - the way
in which we converse and express. So I don't think a data-grid can

Hi Kim,
There's been an effort in the the works already for a few months now.
I'm sure all help/guidance/leadership would be appreciated by all.
