Using a different shell won't affect your network share including your
printer. You just lost the traditional look of Windows. How many
processes on startup? Under MSCONFIG go to the "Services" tab, check
"hide all MS services" and see what else is hiding around.

I once experienced the same problem and thought it had something to do
with a large library of music files (10,000 plus). Back then I used the
iTunes music library, so I changed that and let Slimserver look directly
into my music folders and that solved the problem for me...

I can connect to the SqueezeNetwork, but not to Slimserver.
Could it be that Slimserver is not running on the NAS (I installed a
script to launch slimserver.pl automatically on boot), or would that

Since I had major problems with firmware 29 and 35, I have downgraded
firmware from 29 and up back to 28 by (clean) reinstalling 6.2.1. You
can then reinstall 6.2.2 but before starting it you have to edit the
squeezebox2.version file in the Firmware subdirectory to show something

My experience with raid5 was a bad one. I had one drive fail on my
linux server and didn't get notified for a long time. Then when I
went to add another drive and rebuild, another (of the same vintage)
went out.
Now, I'm not 100% sure that it wasn't my fumbly fingers that did
something

files, but I've had very good luck with this setup. My software raid 5

I'm hoping someone here can help and explain why the following happens
when playing flac or m4a files in Slimserver. Slimserver is slow to
respond, interupts playback when browsing for files and the screen
changes to a "Page Not Found" screen until I manually refresh the
screen again. Non
I have been experiencing the same problem recently with my SB3.
Doing a factory reset of the SB3 (pull power plug, hold down + on
remote while plugging back in until factory reset shows on display)
then re-entering all the network information, resolved the problem for
me.

means to start playing, too' checkbox.
I leave mine off: usually when I press 'On' I want to muck with the
playlist first.
I don't know why you'd see the entire library as a playlist, though

Other disks (bigger, slower) is the primary way at the moment, unless you've done it incrementally over time to smaller media (backing up your library to DVD as you rip it will make the ripping take longer but is much less daunting than doing the same thing after ripping the whole thing)

For the Squeezebox, the firmware is included with the version of
SlimServer you're running. I'm pretty sure it's the same for the
SLIMP3.
So if you have the latest SlimServer, you have the latest firmware. It
automatically checks and will prompt you if it needs to upgrade.

Yep. I was going to ask about that very thing. What, if anything, are
people using to back up a large music library. I have my ripped files
on a RAID5 NAS. Backing up to DVD would be a daunting task.

It said SETUP COMPLETE, Press > to Use SlimServer...

On my way out of the door this morning I noticed that the SB3 again had
a blank screen.
I had just started a clear database/rescan on the SlimServer. I don't

Check DNS and gateway settings.
You can use your router address for both, but that sometimes doesn't
work for DNS. Even though most routers can be set up as DNS servers, I
find it rarely works for me. In that case, I enter in my ISP's DNS
server, which I obtain by looking at my router configura

I've basically followed BPA's suggestions, and now have it working.
The only remaining problem is that the XFM feed is such poor quality!

In addition to the good advice above... some people have had success
just by going for a static IP address instead of using DHCP. It may
not seem quite so elegant, but if it works
