What are the legalites of mounting a CD (original, not copy) in a drive, and
then sharing the drive? In this case, the person sharing the drive creates
no copies, but simpley allows access to the original CD.

Now that Roku (Pinnacle) have halved the price of their Soundbridge
radio, I've bought one for the kitchen.
Although it will run Slim Server, it comes up really ugly on the

to with the fact that 10.5.1. messes up with the permissions set for
folders and drives. When I downgrade to Tiger these problems are gone.

I've been using Firefly server side by side with SlimServer (sharing the
same library) for nearly a year now without any performance problems.
I use Firefly server to transcode my FLACs to WAVs so they appear in
iTunes and can be played through Airport Express or FrontRow.

Version 6.5.0 seems to be the most stable.

requests from the Softsqueeze machine are going through your internet
connection to your ISP which is then routed back down your internet
connection to your SlimServer box. You will have traffic coming and
going on your internet

Out of interest, why are you going to flac in the first place.
Why not straight to wav or aiff using iTunes?
I've read EAC is meant to give an exact copy, but I've experience zero
problems with iTunes doing the ripping.

Can't remember exactly why I went in that direction to start with; but
there are several reasons I have stuck with FLAC and EAC .. mostly
because this combination has met most of the criteria that are of
important to me.
1) Quality - FLAC is lossless, no bits thrown away.
2) Compression - Yields
FIXED...sort ofeven though I couldnt find the offending tag or
issue, the last line of the log generated using the GUI artwork
debbuger showed it stopiing on Danity Kane. So I just removed that one
album and the entire collection imported fine. No idea whats wrong, all

I too used to have drop out problems and I also have a mac g4 setup. I
ended up wiring my squeezebox 2 and then i also upgraded my cpu power
from 767mhz to 1.5ghz.
since the upgrades I have virtually perfect squeezebox performance.

Personally, my SB3 is on to play music, not look at the screen.
The VFD with the analog (needle) display is fantastic.
All I'd look for in an SB4 is a bit more horsepower to decode DTS/AC3
converted to Flacs at their highest compression rating.
And more memory to cache more of these files.
What
Fingerprinting is something we're looking into for various things, but
we would prefer to do it in as open a manner as possible.
But yeah, MP3tunes has added Tapestry playlists since they can easily
fingerprint your library on their server. So you can use this now. :)

I think wireless-n support would be good, but for me, the reason I keep

did something very strange: it played drivel at top output level.
While it was in that mode, it would respond to lowering the volume, and

It's really difficult to try to come up with improvements to the SB3.
I'm not an audiophile and my ears will never let me be one, so I'm
quite content with the sound as it is. I also understand why SD picked
a VFD over an LCD, which is the right decision IMO.

specify a local path on the PC for the music folder. However, when I
specify a network drive (\\Sblan\music), or a network drive mapped to a
local drive (X:\music), it doesn't work.

The problem is likely to be related to permissions - there are quite a
few threads on this and an FAQ, but the forum search isn't great, so
not surprised you couldn't find it.

It sounds like the station have changed over to Flash Player - which
still uses http but with a different transport mechanism to transfer
the data and encrypts the stream and typically use a different audio
format.
Stations change over to require users to use the Web site and view the
ads etc.

I think I found a fix for the problem.
I followed the instructions found on the Apple support site below to
rebuild my library.

An intermittent fault in a network cable, connection or interface can
result in a packet errors.
If the problem is because of load or similar then it is likely there
are no errors when sending/receiving packets.
You should check network interface statistics on the PC to see if there
are network

I think the netstat figures look reasonable. I'm guessing that your
played a number of Flac files.
If you only played one Flac file - then I think you could revisit these
but only if all other possible causes are dismissed.

With the wired connection, I don't think there is anything wrong with
the network - you are only seeing problems when you do something on the
server. This is shown by the performance graphs. SB1 only has about 0.5
seconds of buffer when playing wav/flac so if the server pauses for

to act strange. I have always used the full/large text, but recently
the top half of the line of text is cut off. I don't know what would
have changed. Do you think this is something wrong with the squeezebox?

John, is there any way you can connect the MINI via Ethernet instead of
Wireless? I think that'll make all the difference. There's a LOT of

Because PDA screens usually are too small. Handheld has been optimized to be
used on devices with 240x320px only. Two of Touch's buttons would fill that
