After a few days running I can confirm that SlimServer 6.5.1 seems to
play nicely with iTunes 7.1.

So if you remove the Sound Check data (iTunNorm tags) from your files
using Mp3Tag (as discussed above) then it will pay attention to the
manual slider values.

The downloaded ITC files are stored in "iTunes\Album Artwork\Download".
There is another "iTunes\Album Artwork\Local" folder which I guess is
the manually applied stuff.

Over time I'm gradually fine tuning my ratings so that stuff I really
like gets a higher rating and comes around more often.
I've also considered that any track that I play to completion (without
manually rating it) should get an average rating of 3 stars but I
ollowing SQL against my slimserver database:
