Again, thank you. Sounds as if a new MB will not hurt, but it may not
make much difference either to standard server operations. More memory
and faster HD bus might be more of a difference maker. it sounds?
I really appreciate the input on this topic.

Thank you everyone. That's exactly the sort of information I'm looking

Hi. I'm running Vortexbox on a DIY PC with an AMD Athlon processor and
1Gb RAM, so it's a Fedora 20 kernel and LMS 7.8. My library is about
1.4Tb on a 2Tb drive but that's probably not really pertinent to my
question. It's not that I think anything is necessarily slow, it's just
that I have the
Just wondering how much a processor/memory is used by LMS? Will
upgrading motherboard, memory, etc/ make any difference to LMS? Meaning
if I go from single core to quad core processor or from 1Gb RAM to 16Gb
make much difference to how LMS operates? What is the sweet spot if
anyone knows?

Exactly. That project is interesting but it really is recreating the
wheel and at a much higher projected cost.

If it's for fun, go ahead and recreate the wheel. But I say once more,
the VAMP with a good USB DAC does exactly what this thread seems to
want, with the exception of IR control (but why you'd even want that
since it is IP controlled, I don't know) and does it for a lot less
money than is being t

Thanks for the feedback. Yea, my music server is in a completely
different area of the house than the SB3 that just died. Wireless to
that room is the only option unless I want to engage in major wall
de-construction to run cabling - which I do not. :) It's too bad

Well drat. I replaced the power supply with another 5V 2A supply and
got the same behavior: SB3 reboots after about 5 minutes connected to
the server (running on a Vortexbox.) Same behavior when streaming from
an Internet source. Crap.

Well, my old favorite SB3 just started its death throes today (failure
to stay connected to the same wifi network it has always used with 100%
stability, repeated reboots, unacceptable interruptions to every music
stream) so I am suddenly in the market for a replacement. I can use my
AppleTV, but
IMO it needs digital outputs and analog line level outs. Until it does,
it's just a Sonos knock-off, not a high-end music player solution.

Two reasons why I chose a Squeezebox 3 over the Roku 1000: the
Squeezebox includes a far better built-in DAC, and the display is much
easier to read from across the room. Plus the design of the SB3 is
aesthetically simply beautiful... oh, and it includes built-in Pandora
support.
