I forgot about the dual auto-switching inputs! It's another nice feature, but I don't use it. The auto on/off works great. It has a manual control, so you can adjust the sensitivity for the Squeezebox signal. -- sleepysurf main system: sb2 (with elpac linear psu) benchmark dac-1

You are correct in understanding that you need either powered speakers or an amp between a SBR and passive speakers. If you search these forums you will see posts about very efficient digital amplifiers that are as small, or smaller, than a SBR. These would work well for your application and

For my in-ceiling speakers I use a simple AudioSource AMP 100. It costs less than US$100 (check Amazon), is powerful enough to drive most in-ceiling speakers, and is good (but not audiophile) quality. It doesn't require any management. I just plug the SBR into the Input 2 inputs, turn it on, and

Don't limit yourself to auto-sensing amps, especially because many of the T-class amps, such as the Sonic Impact T amp, are very efficient and draw very little power even when they are on (less than the AudioSource does in standby mode). A few months ago someone posted a link to a site where
