I forgot about the dual auto-switching inputs! It's another nice
feature, but I don't use it.
The auto on/off works great. It has a manual control, so you can
adjust the sensitivity for the Squeezebox signal.

Cool, what is this? Did someone put a SBR and an AMP in one box or is
this a whole new squeeze client device?
The former. There was a little discussion of it

You are correct in understanding that you need either powered speakers
or an amp between a SBR and passive speakers.
If you search these forums you will see posts about very efficient
digital amplifiers that are as small, or smaller, than a SBR. These
would work well for your application and
For my in-ceiling speakers I use a simple AudioSource AMP 100. It costs
less than US$100 (check Amazon), is powerful enough to drive most
in-ceiling speakers, and is good (but not audiophile) quality. It
doesn't require any management. I just plug the SBR into the Input
2 inputs, turn it on, and
Thanks for the quick replys. I agree building an Amp into the receiver
would make this a no brainer in my purchasing decision. I will check
out the AudioSource AMP 100 in the interim. If others have other cheap
Amps with auto detection of signal let me know.

that the Squeezebox receiver requires connection to an AMP or powered
speakers. Seems
Don't limit yourself to auto-sensing amps, especially because many of
the T-class amps, such as the Sonic Impact T amp, are very efficient
and draw very little power even when they are on (less than the
AudioSource does in standby mode).
A few months ago someone posted a link to a site where
