NB. Some ripping software e.g. dbPoweramp can be configured to add
ReplayGain tags at the ripping stage which for CD ripping is my
preferred method. I only use foobar2000 to add ReplayGain tags to my

As to the OP's question, I've occasionally used the Linux touch command
to reset the file date after I've edited tags, so that the edited files
don't appear in New Music. It's a bit of a faff though. I use Kid3 for

I added some music to my server this AM.
Each tag was updated to make sure it would appear at the top of the New
Music folder.
Interesting observation:
Immediately after the scan, the new music appeared in the New Music link
for the classic Squeezebox server interface as you might expect.

and let LMS detect the changes but prevent a change of the order in New
Music.

If you root the Android device you can use Airplay for audio at least. I
use an app called AOA (Airplay on Android)
It would appear that AllPlay also has the advantage of being capable of
multizone playback. Of course its a moot point until devices appear as
to how well it all works in practice.

I had a similar problem develop over time, with a database of 26,000
albums or so. The delay was so long, the controller would time out
waiting for it.
Clearing the cache and rescanning actually fixed the timeout issue, but
listing new music is still slow.

I think this is related to the generally poor performance of the SQL
database that is at the core of the server. It seems to me that the
database was originally created when it ran on Pentium III's with 128
MB of RAM. Nowadays a more typical computer used as a Squeezeserver
has at least two CPU

or SBT to appear. When I do the same on my SB3 it takes less than a
second. Anybody an idea why the difference is so great or better how I
can improve the SBC and SBT performance?

SBS defines "New music" by the time/date stamp on the files. Changing
the tags may or may not update the datestamp on the files -- on all
good tagging programs this is a user-configurable option, because some
people like to have the "file modified" time updated with tag changes
and others don't.
My New Music folder contains some pretty weird stuff near the top (as
well as music which is genuinely new to my collection). I thought maybe
anything with modified tags was being counted as 'new', but if so I
don't understand how they're being modified.

Many good tagging programs can be set either to modify the date/time

could achieve the same thing by using the Dynamic Playlist plugin
(probably with Trackstat). You should be able to set that up to play
"recently added" albums.

I'm not aware of any way to do this. "New Music" should just read the
date/time-last-modified stamp on your music files and select the
required number of most recent additions. The only way to fool it would
be to manually adjust the time/date stamp on the files AFAIK.

How do I play music that was added to my iTunes in date added order?
"New Music" on the SB3 menu tree cant be added to the play list.
"Recently Added" playlist on Itunes can do it, but the numbe
"New Music" is based on file timestamps: changing the tags will often
move something to New Music even if the music itself is exactly the
same.
Depending on your tagger, it may have a value to preserve file
datestamps.
"Clear and rescan" does exactly that: it deletes everything from the
tables,
Somehow, my New Music listing got corrupt, and only shows albums I
ripped months ago, but none of the new stuff. I have tried
Slimserver's Clear and Rescan everything, with no success. Is there a
hidden file in the Slim directory I need to delete, before rescanning?

How long does it take for New Music to show up in

When I create new folders in my music library location (D:\) the
slimserver or squeezebox does not find them.
D:\ is an entire HD and it's getting as full as I want but has 11GB
free. I have created several test folders with various names, some
empty, some with mp3s. I've upgraded from 6.0.1 to
