Just to clarify for David (and apologies if you know this), you need an Ethernet cable for (a) and (b). The same cable should fit both applications. The wired SB3 comes with a 10 foot cable in the box. Cat 5e and Cat 6 is a reference to the type/quality of cable used and will possibly be indicated

Sorry a amendment to the Qnap manual should have been sent out but was missed out of the initial shipment. The Qnap TS-101 comes from Qnap with out a drive. We have installed the drive and set everything up so you can just plug in and go. You do not need to go through any initial setup procedure

It is worth saying that I had absolutely no trouble with the copying stage, just short of 100gb all in one go. Took a long time though. Mine is a 400gb unit. All done over ethernet via my Devolo plugs. perhaps there are some issues with the 300 & 500 being very sensitive to particular hard drives?

Trumper, I've never worked with WMA lossless, but given that it's lossless, there must be something that will batch convert them all to FLAC. I use Easy CD-DA Converter (http://www.poikosoft.com/) for all my ripping and format conversion. -- Fifer --

Thought I'd throw something else into the mix... My Qnap won't enter standby mode. I have it set for standby after 30 minutes (the default in the supplied configuration utility) but after four hours of inactivity it's humming away and getting quite hot (probably normal for this type of device). H

The something humming and whispering is likely to be the Hard Drive I'd have thought. Does Slimserver poll the Squeezebox peiodically? If so, the LAN traffic caused by that is possibly preventing the Qnap from going into standby? -- Fifer

Playing with slimserver at work I notice that there is a setting in the slimserver internet options menu to control the "browser refresh interval". Pushing this out to a stupidly high number might stop the slimserver constantly re-writing it's html page to the hard drive and allow the TS-101 to go
