Looks like I got it to work, by unchecking automatically run at system
startup, and checking automatically run at login. No clue why this
should work, but it did the trick for me...

Just found this thread after trying in vain for 2-3 weeks to get
slimserver to run at startup on XP SP2. Not a ZoneAlarm problem, and
it's all set to run in services as automatic. Every time I have to
manually start the service, I reset the tray icon context menu to auto
startup - still no
Have you perhaps installed a nightly and not done full install from a
setup.exe.
For some reason the nightlies have never included a file called
SlimServer Web Interface.url in C:\Program Files\SlimServer
To create this file, open the Web UI in Internet Explorer. Then select
File-Send-Shortcut
You may also find it helpful to replace
http://localhost:9000
with
http://127.0.0.1:9000
before creating the shortcut (which I think is currently just called
SlimServer Web Interface, without the .url extension)

Just realised that may not work in a shortcut. Leave it as 'localhost'
in the shortcut. You can however use http://127.0.0.1:9000 from the

Thanks Diana, I really appreciate the time you gave me on this.
I have tried the latest releases (up to a couple of days ago) and each
time I fully deleted the slimserver folder.
@Skunk, unfortunately I don't have a spare computer. I am very hesitant
to go back to v6.3. With this version, there

Perhaps the next step (in the absence of further help from the forum)
would be to contact the good folk at SlimDevices direct - they are very

Sorry - you're quite right, that thread is about a different issue.
However, my suggestion about setting the service to log in is - or may

(did you also try turning off the firewall/AV?)
Thanks again

I got it to work unintentionally back in 6.3 by reformatting the hard
drive, but I couldn't even pull up windows task manager back then
because my OS was corroupted somehow. 6.3 worked great with a fresh

Justme As you guess, there have been threads on this topic - see,
for example,

The issue could be, as you suggest, related to security settings -
check by turning off the security software and retrying?
I'm not sure whether the specific
Thanks Diana for your replay.
I'm not entirely sure that the link you gave is for the exact same
problem. In that thread they seemed to be discussing that the SB had
problems connecting with the server.
In my problem they have no problems connecting - so long as Slimserver
has started. The
